Top artists from AudioActive's Hip Hop Foundation in Brighton including UK DMC finalists Surgical Cuts and Hines (Slip Jam B) ran masterclasses for all levels in Hastings and Rye and culminated in 10 minute Platform Performances.

Award winning graphic novelist Julian Hanshaw ran a day long masterclass. a broad range of students learned how to select and visualise the dramatic moments in a story to create their own comic strip. This masterclass is a potential forerunner to a 12 week course to produce a bound collection of illustrated short stories.

Hearts and Bones

Works on canvas and paper from Surrealist artists Kathleen Fox, Guy Girard and Wedgwood Steventon.
Parisian artist Guy Girard was resident at The School through September. He exhibited works created during his residency as well as collaborating with Kathleen and Wedgwood using a joint action painting technique.

A performance installation lasting four hours during which time spectators were free to come and go as they wish. The resulting works were on view during Open Studios fortnight.

     
Aerial Workshop
25, 26 and 27 August 2009
Lorraine Moynehan of What Goes Up introduced participants to aerial work (trapeze, rope, silks). The workshops were both physically challenging and dramatically inspiring, exploring transitions from the floor to higher levels and painted strong visual images in the air.

Creative Partnerships Training Day: Introduction to Working in Schools

Aimed at people in the creative industries that haven't worked inschools. A thorough introduction to working in schools, and the basics of Creative Partnerships practice. The day included; the nuts and bolts of CRB checks and insurance, working in partnership with schools, the challenges of working with young people, plus practical ideas for workshops.
