A day long creative experience with artists Denise Franklin and Sarah Palmer.
Sarah and Denise have worked together on joint exhibitions over the last few years and they would like to share with you their ways of looking and recording. They do not believe that there is a perfect drawing and this day will give people the confidence and the opportunity to explore simple techniques which will illuminate their professional and creative lives.
Held at the School Creative Centre the class will be based in the art room and will walk out along the pathway close to the river and returning to the art room and school grounds to continue working. Experimenting with materials and processes using a variety of papers, pencils, charcoal, chalk, water based paints, inks, fine liners, sticks, erasers, pens etc. To record what people see and feel while out in the landscape. Making simple books, reflecting and reviewing.
Techniques will be demonstrated and the group will leave inspired with a selection of handmade books which will act as resources and further inspiration once the class has ended.
Lunch - delicious soup and home made bread will be provided back at the school.
Please bring your own favourite drawing materials if you have them and also a camera if you would like to take photographs at the end of the day. Drawing materials and boards will be supplied to take out on the walk.
Quotes from past students at West Dean College:
"Really lovely and a fantastic setting. I loved the structures made by the fruit trees and they will inspire some jewellery pieces".
"Very enjoyable workshop - it took my mind away from everything else and was very inspiring".
"It was great to be drawing without a purpose in mind and it reminded me how important these exercises can be in developing space for thinking". |
